Gli ultimi aggiornamenti sull’avanzamento dei lavori sull’ormai famigerato telefoninux, il Neo1973, promettono davvero bene. Qui, è possibile reperire la seguente dichiarazione di Steve, uno degli ingegneri, risalente al 7 Aprile. Come si può intuire, i lavori vanno avanti freneticamente, e tutto l’alone di delusione che si è creato con i mesi intorno al progetto è giustificabile soltanto dal fatto che ci sono migliaia di estimatori del software libero che non vedono l’ora di poter mettere le mani sul palmare/telefonino più libero del mondo.

Come si percepisce dal comunicato, la fase attuale è quella della produzione dei prototipi, che precede la produzione di massa. In questa fase la produzione viene messa a punto, ed ottimizzata per evitare gli errori durante la fase della produzione di massa. Una volta completata questa fase, partirà la produzione massiccia e la vendita online, con un distributore in Europa (niente dogane!).

Sono fiducioso che la produzione di massa e quindi la vendita possa cominciare entro la fine di Aprile

The DVT run, the design verification was completed a bit ago and the

designhas been verified. For a shortTime I had some worries about

landscape mode, but Engineering figured outthat the issue was driver

setting.PVT is proceeding. At least 3 PVT runs are planned and  phones

from PVT areheaded back toTiawan. During PVT there are always minor tweaks.

This PVT will be nodifferent than any other PVT. You build100 phones, you

find out that 85 work, you tweak the process to improvethat.  You build another

batch.Since DVT is passed all that is left is production details. Running

thelines, tuning the process.  Trust meThis is not a time to bug an engineer

and ask " is done yet?" "are we thereyet?" 

So what happens from here on out. First we have to complete PVT. That meanswe

have to review all the PVT buildsAnd then we have to decide to start Mass

Production. And then we have toschedule our start date. Finally, if people

want an early sample and can convince me that they have agood business idea,

send me mail.

I have a very small number of samples headed my way and I want to make

sure"I listen to ideas and proposals I havent heard."
